The Charles E. Nelson house was an iconic historical abandoned homestead on Emerson Loop Road near Dufur, Oregon. In June of 2018 I had the privilege to enter with the crew of Oregon Field Guide while we documented it piece by piece. Ellen Simmons came with us, a 90 years youngspry and amazing woman who spent a few of her childhood years living in the house along with her family, the Nelsons. Three scant weeks later we were all devistated to learn that the beautiful homestead was one of the first victims of the deadly Dalles Substation Fire. Over the years I photographed it many times. Here are some of those images, followed by photos taken the day after the fire.
